Fifth District Commander Lamar D. Greene


Lamar D. Greene offers more than a decade of accomplishment and experience in the arena of law enforcement. He was a key contributor in establishment of the Metropolitan Police Departments community policing efforts as they are known today. He supervised one of the first community policing beat pilot projects that helped lead to the development of Police Patrol Service Area. On September 23, 2007, Greene was appointed to the position of Commander of the Fifth District by the Chief of Police, Cathy L. Lanier.

Throughout Commander Greene’s career he has gained a wide array of police experience. He has successful tenure in the following areas: patrol services, investigative branches, executive protection, business services and the recruiting branch of the Metropolitan Police Department.

Commander Greene has spent his career in various assignments throughout the police department. Specifically, he has served in the following capacities:

As an Inspector he was assigned to the First District as the Assistant District Commander. There he spent his days working with the community on various projects that helped combat crime toward the end of the summer 2007.

As a Captain, Commander Greene served as the Recruiting Branch Commander, from 2/05/2006 to July 2007. During this assignment he was tasked with hiring enough officers to reach the goal of 3900 police officer. He accomplished this goal in less than 12 calendar months by developing and implementing aggressive and comprehensive recruiting strategies.

Commander Greene also served as the Executive Protection Unit Commander, Operational Services Command 8/1/05 to February 2006. He provided protection for the Mayor of the District of Columbia and his family. This assignment required twenty-four hour accountability for the Mayor’s safety.

Commander Greene also served as a Lieutenant, in the Office of the Superintendent of Detectives, Violent Crimes Branch, Homicide Unit from 1/3/02 to 08/1/05. He was instrumental in obtaining a 60% closure rate during this assignment. Before managing at the Violent Crimes Branch, he managed district level investigations at the Third District detective’s office. He served as a Lieutenant and Sergeant at this assignment.

He was asked to serve as the Interim Fleet Manager, Business Services Division 5/01 thru 12/01. During this period he was responsible for overseeing the moving of fleet operations across the city into a new facility. He successfully moved the fleet operations and trained a new civilian Fleet Manager.

Commander Greene also served as a patrol Sergeant in the Third District, a patrol Lieutenant and Officer in the Fifth District where he learned the concepts of community policing and serving the citizens of this great city.

He was educated at St. Paul’s College and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in management. He has successfully completed the FBI LEEDA training program and has received various departmental awards to include the Life Saving Metal and Sustained Superior Performance Award.
